Insure your loan?

If you are concerned about your health or job security then taking some form of Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) may provide peace of mind.PPI is also known as Accident,Sicknessand Unemployment(ASU) insurance. In exchange for a monthly premium,PPI pays you a set amount of money to cover some or all of your costs ifyou are unable to work either because you have been made redundant (no good if you are sacked) and/or because you are unable to work due to ill heath. Never buy PPI with another financial product Whatever you do EveryInvestor advises that you do not accept PPIbundled with a loan or any other financial product. Only ever take this insurance outfrom an independent provider as a standalone product. Most online loan quotes automatically include the price of a costly PPI policy. Always recalculate for a quote without PPI.

A healthy high-risk pool

RALEIGH - The General Assembly is finally working on a serious proposal to make health insurance more affordable. State Rep. Verla Insko's health insurance high-risk pool bill has already passed two House committees. The debate offered a preview of what's ahead for the state's first significant health reform in years. Some people, because they have a serious health condition such as multiple sclerosis, are quoted $1,000 to $2,000 a month premiums when they try to buy insurance. A high-risk pool for health coverage -- like the high-risk insurance pool for automobile insurance -- puts people with serious health problems (or risks) into a pool where they pay still-high but more affordable premiums for decent coverage.Even though people in the pool pay a higher premium than those without serious health problems, it still costs more to insure them than the premiums collected to cover medical costs, because people in the pool are so sick.

Phone laws to hit car insurance premiums

The new mobile phone laws will make it increasingly difficult for UK drivers to find competitive insurance premiums, a report has claimed.Drivers caught using a mobile phone at the wheel can now receive a £60 fine and three points on their licence, as part of the government's attempt to hammer home the importance of concentration in the car.Insurance broker Quoteline Direct believes that 10,000 drivers will be pushed into the non-standard insurance bracket as a result of convictions, as insurers take an unforgiving approach to this particular folly.Quoteline Direct's Paul O' Gorman said: "Insurers will be using this as an excuse to push people automatically into the non-standard insurance bracket. Three points on a licence for speeding or jumping a red light has always bumped up premiums slightly but I expect many insurers to take a harsher view of people convicted of this offence.

An Independent Approach To Car Insurance

(NAPSI)-Many consumers are finding they can drive down the cost of car insurance-and the time it takes to select the right policy-by contacting an independent insurance agent or broker. Because they represent many different insurance companies, independent agents have the flexibility to review rates and coverage from competing carriers and get you the best deal. Plus, they can offer affordable protection for your home, business and other assets. So rather than spending hours gathering quotes from various companies, you can get it done with one simple call or visit to your independent agent or broker. If you're thinking of contacting an independent agent, here are a few things to consider: • What's your lifestyle? Many factors determine auto insurance rates, not just vehicle year, make and model.

State Farm Insurance California: Customers Paying Too Much

San Diego, CA: California State Farm Auto Insurance policyholders may have paid an illegal accident surcharge if they bought their car insurance with the company any time from 1997 to 2002. The fee was charged to people who were either previously uninsured or who could not prove that they had insurance prior to buying insurance from State Farm. The accident surcharge violates the California Insurance Code, which states that a person's lack of previous insurance cannot be used as a factor when an insurance company determines insurance premiums and Good Driver Discounts. The surcharge was also known as the "Non-Verifiable Accident Record Surcharge." People who paid the surcharge may be eligible for reimbursement if a class action lawsuit is filed against State Farm Insurance. Consumers are becoming sick of how they are being treated by companies like State Farm.

AIG Auto Insurance Launches GPS-Based Teen Driver Pilot Program

AIG Auto Insurance today announced the AIG Teen GPS Program for auto insurance policyholders with teen drivers. According to the National Highway Safety Administration, auto accidents are the leading cause of death for 16 to 20 year-olds, with roughly 6,000 young lives lost annually. The program will initially be piloted in New Jersey, as well as Arizona, Illinois, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Washington, and uses GPS technology to allow parents of teen drivers to monitor the location of the teen's car and driving. AIG Auto Insurance is a division of American International Group Inc., a New York City-based insurance organization.

After installing a small GPS unit, parents can instantly determine the exact location of the teen's car via the Web or any phone. Additionally, the AIG Teen GPS Program will automatically send the parent an e-email and/or text message if the teen's car exceeds pre-defined speed limits or is driven too far from a pre-defined location, such as home, school or work.

Chartiers-Houston comes out swinging

HOUSTON - One team is a regular in the WPIAL softball playoffs, but is still building toward becoming a top program. The other is, simply put, a proven winner.

Bentworth High School has made playoff appearances each of the past four seasons, but hasn't advanced past the quarterfinals.

Chartiers-Houston, meanwhile, is the two-time defending WPIAL Class A champion and has been in the semifinals each of the last eight years.

When the two met on a blustery Wednesday afternoon at the Allison Elementary School field, each had something to gain from the key early-season Section 1-A matchup.

Bentworth wanted to prove it can play with one of Class A's best, and Chartiers-Houston wanted to show it's still the team to beat.

Illinois Joins Bandwagon On Health Care Reform

SPRINGFIELD, Ill.-Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich last week became the third governor in as many months to propose sweeping health care reform legislation to vastly reduce the number of uninsured. The Illinois governor's plan to provide coverage to the state's 1.4 million uninsured residents resembles earlier proposals in California and Pennsylvania. All the proposals, for example, would boost the number of people eligible for state health insurance premium subsidies; create state health insurance purchasing pools to make it easier and less expensive for the uninsured, and in some cases, small employers, to obtain coverage; and impose fees or assessments on most employers-except the smallest ones that do not offer health insurance. Gov. Blagojevich's proposal, though, differs from the others in several ways.

Owners willing to pay thousands to save a pet

- About a month ago Tony, a dog, ruptured a disc and started fighting to breathe. His owner, Jane Phipps, rushed him to a veterinary hospital. He underwent surgery and spent 30 days on a ventilator.

Tony pulled through, although he still needs physical therapy.

And now Phipps needs $25,000 to cover her vet bill. So far, her only plan to pay it down is a yard sale. She's put more than $16,000 on a credit card.

"Some people think I'm a lunatic for spending that kind of money," said Phipps, 53, a nurse who reviews medical charts for an insurance company. "My priorities are my family, and he's a part of my family. . . .

"The way the world works now . . . the only person who really doesn't judge you and loves you unconditionally is a pet."

The bill shows how far Phipps was willing to go to maintain that relationship.

Vacation Homes Boom in Spain May Bust as Banks Recoil (Update1)

March 20 (Bloomberg) -- Vacation home prices in Spain, a leading indicator of Europe's property market, may face a slump that's worse than the real estate decline in the U.S., based on the loan terms banks are imposing on developers.

Property magnate Fernando Martin, the former Real Madrid soccer chairman, and Barcelona-based Promociones Habitat SA are paying five times more to borrow than U.S. developers such as Centex Corp. in Dallas, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Even UAL Corp.'s United Airlines, which was bankrupt last year, pays a lower risk premium on its loans.

``Banks are imposing terms on real-estate firms similar to those for defaulted loans,'' said David Malpica, who helps manage $5.6 billion of real-estate and distressed debt assets in Europe and the U.S.

How will the bridge toll?

Bridge tolls will arrive in the Lower Mainland by the end of the decade, but unlike the Coquihalla Highway toll plaza, you won't have to slow down to pay.

Electronic tolling is the way of the future with systems that will identify and automatically bill cars as they move at highway speed.

Motorists here will see it in action first in 2009.

That's when the first electronic tolls will be collected as TransLink's $800-million Golden Ears Bridge opens to traffic between Surrey-Langley and Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows.

It will be followed by electronic tolls on the twinned Port Mann Bridge, set to open in 2013.

Electronic tolls bring with them issues ranging from enforcement to accuracy to adaptability, but industry experts expect few problems.

On the Golden Ears, motorists will pay a $2.85 toll if they have a transponder installed in their vehicle.
