| Saigontourist, AIG tie up to provide travel insurance
(SGT-HCMC) Vietnam's leading tour operator Saigontourist Travel Service Co. inked a deal yesterday with AIG General Insurance (Vietnam) Co. Ltd. to provide global travel insurance for tourists. Under the deal signed in HCMC, AIG is the insurance partner to provide global travel insurance for Saigontourist's outbound tourists in one year from April 1. The insurance policy covers health care costs abroad, around-the-clock emergency support by International SOS, accidents, losses, delayed and damaged luggage. Especially, the policy also covers losses or damages caused by terrorism, natural calamities, and epidemic diseases. The two companies declined to announce the fee, but said that the payout can reach US$10,000. Vo Anh Tai, director of Saigontourist, said that the global travel insurance service not only applies to Vietnamese travel abroad but also for overseas Vietnamese and foreigners who buy outbound tourism services at the company.

A rising from last month's recertification of Unic Insurance Plc by the National Insurance Commission [NAICOM], the company has commenced plans to foster rapid growth of its clients base in the life and health operations which she has been licensed to operate. Already, a company wide extensive training programme has commenced for all the staff inorder to prepare them for the new task. The training is also geared towards updating and sensitizing the staff on the thinking of the organization and adequately equip them on the vision, operations, and other strategies to be adopted. Experienced professionals in the health and actuarial circle are facilitating the training. .
Health to Pay
As health care costs continue to rise, the calls for a single-payer system have become increasingly vociferous. Recent polls have even suggested that many Americans are receptive to the idea. But the arguments from single-payer advocates are riddled with misconceptions and half-truths. A single-payer system would treat a system of America's health care problem, while leaving the problem itself untreated. The most frequently cited statistic by those who favor single-payer health insurance is that the United States has similar or even lower life expectancies than other developed nations, despite spending more on health care as a percentage of GDP. But the use of life expectancy in measuring health outcomes is erroneous. Life expectancy, and overall health in general, is determined by a variety of factors, not merely how much one spends on health care.
